Why "The Beach Burrow"?

When our children were young, we found a book in the closeout bargain bin in a bookstore, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". Our kids loved the book and characters. It was only later that the US version of the book was released and became a phenomenon. We had a cabin in the N.C. mountains that we named "The Burrow" after the Weasley home. With the St. George cottage being so tall and narrow, it was only natural that the cottage became "The Beach Burrow".

What's with the gnome on the opening page?

One of the earliest scenes at The Burrow in the books included the Weasley kids degnoming the garden. They would grab the gnomes, swing them around until they were dizzy, and then throw them beyond the yard's wall.

What are the St. George Cottages?

The cottages built along East Gorrie appear narrow and compact, but are surprisingly spacious. They are beachfront with boardwalks over the dune to the beach. The Beach Burrow is a three bedroom home with the third bedroom being a loft bedroom partially open overlooking the main living area. The main living area has a porch with table and chairs as well as Adirondack chairs and has an open view overlooking the beach and gulf. The main bedroom has its own porch overlooking the beach.

Those of you who are familiar with St. George Island know there is little commercial development there, however the few commercial establishments are within easy walking distance from the cottages, from dinner to ice cream to "Harry A's" bar or Teach's Oyster bar. The main east-west road is Gulf Drive. East Gorrie Drive where the cottages are located carries very little traffic. If you look at this picture from our St. George gallery taken at sunset, you can just see the torches on the porch of the Blue Parrot along the right.

How about pets?

A single dog is allowed. Unfortunately, cats and rental property don't seem to get along very well and we do not allow them.
